Portion of S Third and W Muhammad Ali Blvd

to close for emergency sewer line repair

Beginning Monday September 26

LOUISVILLE, KY – On Monday, September 26, MSD will close a portion of S Third Street and narrow part of W Muhammad Ali Boulevard for an emergency repair of a sewer line running beneath the pavement. Investigation of a depression and hole in the pavement near the intersection of these two streets revealed a cavity below the pavement and deteriorated areas in the clay sewer pipe.

Third Street will close to through traffic between W Liberty and Guthrie streets beginning Monday morning, September 26. W Muhammad Ali Boulevard will have one lane of traffic open between Third and Fifth streets, with curb parking only available on the north side of the roadway. Local access will be available for the parking garages and businesses in the area. Detour signs are in place directing area motorists, and sidewalks remain open.

The void below the roadway is approximately 8 feet deep and layered with utilities. There will be no disruption of sewer service during the repair. There is no estimate of how long the repair will take.
