Broadway traffic restricted due to
emergency sewer line repair
Restrictions between Seventeenth Street and Dixie Highway
LOUISVILLE, KY – Effective immediately, all traffic through the 1700 block of West Broadway is shifted to the westbound lanes to make room for emergency repair of a collapsed sewer line. The usual pair of westbound lanes is divided in half to allow eastbound traffic to use the inside lane while the repair project occupies the usual eastbound lanes.
The project also affects travel along Dixie Highway. Northbound Dixie Highway traffic is not allowed to turn right onto Broadway. Vehicles westbound on Broadway are not allowed to turn left onto Dixie Highway. Detour signs are in place.
An estimate of time for completion of the sewer repair and lifting of the traffic restrictions will be made once the project gets started. Work is scheduled to begin after the Memorial Day holiday. The traffic restrictions were put in effect immediately to protect against the possibility of further road damage above the collapsed sewer line and danger to motorists. The broken line is a 24-inch diameter brick pipe that has been in place since the late nineteenth century.
