Steeplebush

Dense, erect, plumes of pink to rose-purple flowers occur at the tips of the stems. The orange to reddish- brown bark has a peeling texture; the fall foliage is yellow. This species forms flowers on new wood, so prune in late winter to early spring if needed. Spreads by suckers to form colonies. Keep suckers cut back if single-stemmed form is desired. Susceptible to many of the diseases that attack other rose family members, including leaf spot, fire blight and powdery mildew. Attracts bees, butterflies and birds. Food source for caterpillars.
