New England Aster flowers until frost. Cut back plants in early summer to maintain a shorter and fuller shape. May require staking. Can be aggressive. The flower color is variable, ranging from lavender to blue to white. Cut back dormant plants in late winter. This species prefers full sun, but is tolerant of many soil types including clay. Attracts bees and butterflies. Makes nice cut flowers.
