This species will grow in either sun or shade and prefers dry soil. Very drought tolerant. Plants may be sheared in mid to late summer to promote a fall rebloom and to remove any sprawling or unkempt foliage. Plants will spread by rhizomes and self- seeding to form large colonies. Cut back dormant plant material during the winter months. Attracts butterflies and bees. Not attractive to deer.
