MSD's Neighborhood Maintenance Program was developed in 1993 to identify about 50 neighborhood areas in the utility's drainage service territory. These neighborhood areas have been designed to include MSD's entire drainage service area. Service requests are grouped by neighborhood and maintenance visits are scheduled on a yearly basis. The Neighborhood Maintenance Program enables MSD to better respond to customers with more definitive schedules. It also provides a program for resolving drainage problems not requiring a large capital improvement project to correct. In addition, this program increases MSD's productivity by locating crews in more concentrated areas. Meetings are scheduled ahead of time to establish priorities with suburban city officials or neighborhood leaders for determining whether our Maintenance Department can address other drainage concerns. The extent to which service requests within a neighborhood can be resolved depends upon the number of service requests and the amount of field work that is necessary to correct the drainage need. Generally, MSD schedules three to four weeks of work in each neighborhood.
