The Floodplain Board hears and decides on requests for variances from the requirements of the Floodplain Management Ordinance and conducts proceedings relating to enforcement of the ordinance.
The purpose of the Floodplain Management Ordinance is to maximize the wise and safe use of the flood prone areas of Jefferson County, to ensure that flood levels are not increased, and to minimize public and private losses from flooding. MSD is the administering agency for the ordinance, and the MSD Board acts as the community’s Floodplain Board.
Floodplain Board Meetings
Floodplain Board meetings do not occur on a regular periodic schedule. Meetings are called as needed and appropriate in response to requests for variances from the requirements of the Floodplain Ordinance. When scheduled, meetings are typically held on the fourth Monday of the month, prior to the regular MSD Board meeting, and posted on the MSD Calendar of Events.
Meeting Agendas and Minutes
Board meeting notices, agendas, and minutes for pending matters and meetings held within the past year are posted here.
Information for Adjoining Property Owners
When an application for a variance from the terms of the Floodplain Management Ordinance is received and a hearing scheduled, notice is provided to adjoining property owners. If you received an adjoining property owner notice from MSD, additional information about the pending variance application can be found here.
