Talking H2Onestly Podcast Addresses Issues Facing Water Utilities Nationally
LOUISVILLE, KY—Sewer odors, water affordability, consent decrees, and more are subjects to be discussed on the new Talking H2Onestly podcast just launched by Louisville MSD with the Water Environment Federation (WEF) Utility Management Community.
As the name implies, Talking H2Onestly will present honest conversation about the intricate and complicated issues facing water utilities and their customers across the United States. Topics will include operational concerns, funding needs, infrastructure investment, resiliency, workforce, and various other topics that impact communities. National Industry leaders will discuss ways to address the issues and give utility customers better understanding of what it takes to provide a safe, clean waterways and reduce flood risk.
“We hope that these national perspectives are not only helpful for utility employees, but also helpful for local communities and political stakeholders as well,” MSD Executive Director Tony Parrott said.
The debut episode takes a close look at the issue of odors, a problem facing wastewater utilities across the country. It features odor perspectives from the leaders of DC Water in Washington, DC; Milwaukee MSD, and Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government in Kentucky along with Louisville MSD.
The discussion also examines ways to inform the public about system improvements and actions underway to combat odors. “As utility professionals, we have the ability to not only educate the public, but to inform them of all the progress that we are making in terms of best practices for treating odors in sewer systems,” Parrott said.
