Redbud

Single or multi-stemmed trunk with a wide umbrella-like crown. Showy pink flowers hug the branches and trunk in the spring. Since this tree does not transplant easily, it should be planted when young. Fall foliage may turn yellow. Redbuds are subject to damage by insect pests such as tree hoppers, caterpillars, scale, and leafhoppers. Diseases include Verticillium wilt, leaf spots, and the worst disease, canker. Spreads easily by seed. Attracts butterflies and birds.
