Supplier Diversity with AES

Evelyn Strange, owner and President of AES (Advanced Electrical Systems) has been a certified woman-owned business with MSD since 1998. AES employs some 110 workers who diligently execute the systematic process of managing projects for heavy industrial electrical contracting and engineering. This process along with the strategic alliances of other companies has allowed them to provide a wide range of services to their customer base through the diversified skills of their staff—providing project set-up, project management, including tracking of financials and purchase orders to give real-time information regardless of the size of the job as well as engineering skills that add value to AES’s product and service.

As a result of making diversity and economic inclusion a business priority, MSD has provided opportunities for minority and woman-owned businesses over the past twenty years. AES has a successful track record for reliable service to businesses such as MSD, UPS, Louisville Metro Government, U of L Cardinal Park and Brown & Foreman to name a few. Strange maintains that the MSD supplier diversity initiative is a model program that makes good business sense. “Being involved with professional organizations around town, MSD is second to none when it comes to diversity and providing a level playing field of opportunity. MSD’s procurement guidelines have set the standard and they take a leadership role in providing opportunities for minority and women-owned businesses."

Evelyn Strange was recently appointed to the NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners) national board of directors—one of 13 women that represent local chapters from across the nation. NAWBO is the only national dues-based organization for women business owners. Evelyn’s tenure runs from 2006 through 2008. Additionally, she received a 2006 appointment to serve on the executive committee and board of GLI (Greater Louisville Inc.). Both appointments are great accomplishments for Evelyn and speak volumes to her role in the community. “I am very interested in the economic success of our community and being both at GLI and the national level of NAWBO keeps me informed on the issues at hand.”
